CHARLES EDWARDS ANTIQUES
Empire

Charles Edwards has been an antiques dealer since leaving university. He opened his first shop in the late 1960’s in Abingdon Road, famous for having previously been the home of the 1960’s clothes shop 'Biba'. He then moved to Notting Hill Gate and a shop in Rabbit Row, where he continued to build up a reputation for the unusual.

From decorative objects to furniture and lighting this became a destination for some America’s and London’s leading interior designers, he was among a group antiques dealers to get a reputation for quirky and decorative items.

Charles then moved out of London and had a shop in Northamptonshire for four years before returning to London and opening his shop at 582 King’s Road in 1987. At this time, this part of the King’s Road was recognised as one of the main areas for antiques shops in London.

One of his great loves was always antique lighting and especially antique lanterns, whether wall lanterns or hanging lanterns. This interest prompted him to start manufacturing replicas of the originals in his shop and the rest is history ..... with over 350 designs now available from his two shops on the King's Road. The lanterns can viewed at
